A quaint little town steeped in royal history; this is Windsor.
I headed down to Windsor a few weekends ago for a family wedding and managed to spend a couple hours exploring this charming little town.
Windsor is located about twenty-something miles west of London in Berkshire and is known primarily for the in-famous Windsor Castle, one of the residences of the British Royal Family.
I came to Windsor for a weekend getaway a few years ago and having already visited Windsor Castle, I decided to spend the afternoon strolling along its pretty little streets.
Across from the gates of Windsor Castle is the Old Windsor town, built on a hill and lined with shops, cafes and restaurants.
You get the best views of Windsor Castle as you stroll along the main strip of Old Windsor.
Old bricks and stones set against lush green grounds.
Don’t miss these adorable pubs, home-made ice cream and coffee shops dotted along picturesque cobblestone streets.
Around the corner from Windsor Castle runs the River Thames. Several boat tours line the riverside along with these beautiful swans eager to be fed!
The most beautiful spot to watch the sunset.
Windsor is such a lovely weekend getaway and ridiculously close to London (about an hour and a half drive). Quaint and peaceful, the perfect city break just at your doorstep.
