Only At Hakkasan

Hakkasan restaurants around the world are celebrating their fifteenth anniversary by serving local, ‘Only At’ dishes and cocktails.

The lovely people at Hakkasan kindly invited me along to taste their Only At Bruton menu at their Mayfair branch and being one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in town, I just couldn’t say no!

Hakkasan first opened its doors in 2001 in London’s Hanway Place and today, boasts a repertoire of eleven restaurants across the UK, US, China, India & Middle East. The Only At menus celebrate local culture and cuisine, using seasonal ingredients whilst still using Hakkasan’s modern Chinese cooking techniques.

First and foremost, we were greeted with (unlimited) cocktails! The bartenders and wait staff definitely took very good care of us and made sure no one was empty handed for even a second.

I may just have found my favourite cocktail ever (the one on the left)! Consisting of ginger, cardamom and cinnamon, the perfect blend of sweet and spicy.

eat_wear_wander_scallops3

Scallops embedded in cucumber; incredibly tender and lightly spiced.

eat_wear_wander_beancurd

Crispy bean curd wrap; now I’d never order a veg dish at an Asian restaurant when I could gorge on seafood instead but this actually wasn’t too bad! This consisted of yam bean and shitake mushroom.

Clearly struggling to keep up with the super efficient drink service!

I find there’s a very fine line between when truffles are delicious and when they’re overwhelming. Luckily, this truffle infused fish had just the right amount of flavour.

Wagyu beef and asparagus; perfectly rare cooked beef with a delicate smokey taste.

eat_wear_wander_porkbelly

Wok friend pork belly in plum sauce; now I’m not a big fan of pork belly so would give this one a miss.

The one in the middle was a super tender lamb with a type of curry sauce. It had a similar consistency as the beef but with stronger flavour.

Saving the best for last, we were finally served stir-fry langoustine Szechuan style. Ohmygod this was hands down my favourite dish of the evening. I spent the remainder of the night trying to get my hands on more of these. So fresh and spicy!

I honestly don’t know how I made it home after tasting all of these!

And we’re not done! Here we have Hakkasan’s version of an espresso martini and a very spicy pineapple martini; for those that enjoy a bit of a kick.

Hakkasan is great not only for its food but also for its lively atmosphere. No matter the day of the week, the restaurant is full and busy with Londoners and tourists alike. I had a lovely evening sampling dishes and cocktails from this unique menu and was taken care of so well by all the Hakkasan staff.

The Only At menus will be available at Hakkasan Hanway Place and Hakkasan Mayfair from the 26th of September and you can find out more information here.

The closest tube station to Hanway Place is Tottenham Court Road and Mayfair are Oxford Circus, Bond Street and Green Park.

I was invited as a guest of Hakkasan.
