The Palaces of Udaipur

Rajasthan is probably my favourite state in India, extremely rich in history and adorned with some of the most beautiful forts and palaces I’ve ever seen.

Following the madness of the wedding, we finally got the chance to take a deep breath (or two) and get lost in the history of this stunning city. Below is a photo diary of some of the palaces of Udaipur.

Udaipur’s City Palace is a palace complex and the biggest of its kind in the state of Rajasthan. Situated along the banks of Lake Pichola, it has several palaces built within.

A concoction of both Mughal and Rajasthani architecture, this beauty was built on a hill top, providing panoramic views of the whole city.

I went pretty crazy taking pictures of doors in this city.

Don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this view!

Jag Mandir or Lake Garden Palace is located in the middle of Lake Pichola. Take a picturesque boat ride at sunset and make your way to this ‘Pleasure Palace’, used by the royals for holding parties and as a summer resort.

There’s something really peaceful (despite the crowds that you find at every nook and corner in India!) about getting lost in the history of a city. India is the type of place where you go to completely leave behind the real world. It’s a place that is unlike anything you may have experienced before. No rules apply here and I think that’s what we all need from time to time.
