I recently discovered a new sushi restaurant, tucket away on St Martins Lane, right in the heart of one of my favourite areas of London, Covent Garden.
Its minimalist, chic and trendy decor is what first attracted me to Murakami. That and the fact that is serves sushi! I came here with a couple of colleagues last week and it was so good that I was back again a week later with my best friend.
How could I possibly go to a Japanese restaurant (or any restaurant for that matter) and not order green tea?
We began (as most sushi meals do) with a plate of spicy edamame beans. Warm and tangy, they were topped with sweet chilli sauce and sesame seeds.
Next we went for one of my favourite kind of dumplings, pork gyoza which came with a thick and salty soya and miso sauce.
Their salmon teriyaki is out of this world! Perfectly grilled with just the right amount of sweetness from the teriyaki sauce. Definitely my favoutire dish of the day!
The restaurant is quite big and airy with a more private area towards the back if you wanted to hire out the space for large groups. A lot of wood and very zen, similar to a Japanese tea garden.
For our mains we went for the Murakami Delxue which comes with: rice, spicy salmon rolls, spicy tuna rolls, beef chilli relish, chicken yakitori and miso aubergine.
I found the beef slightly too chewy but really enjoyed the chicken yakitori.
My favourite part of this platter was the spicy salmon and tuna roll (basically, give me anything with spice!).
And then there was this beauty, tuna tartare on a bed of avocado! So perfect when dipped in some soya sauce and wasabi.
Last but not least, my (second) favourite dish of the day was the dessert, in the form of a nutella cheescake. I tried this the first time I came here and we loved it so much that we ordered another one! So I had no choice but to try this little wonder once again.
Murakami is located on St Martins Lane in Covent Garden and you can find out more information here. The closest tube station is Leicester Square and luckily I didn’t have to book either time I visited (it may have been because both times were during the less busy, lunch hours).
I found it to be a great place for a nice, relaxed meal with the girls during a shopping trip or for a quick bite before heading out for drinks. The best part is that it’s not too bad on the wallet either!
