I have been meaning to check out Broadway Market for a good couple of months now but something (namely weather!) always got in the way. So last weekend’s rising temperature brought me east to discover all that this part of London has to offer!
I got off at Hackney Central Station (embarissingly, my first time on the Overground!), strolled through a plethora of sunbathers and barbeque-ers sprawled across London Fields and finally reached Broadway market. An explosion of colours, sounds, tastes and smells (and heat!) filled the air with a cool and eclectic east London crowd.
I couldn’t not stop to admire the rainbow-like meringue creations by the Meringue Girls! This is where they originated and they are now stocked in Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, to name a few.
Ten minutes in and I managed to grab some heavenly basil and garlic infused olives along with a bottle of balsamic glaze.
Fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice to quench your thirst in this hot weather.
Another one of my finds was this stall with the richest and creamiest dark chocolate truffles I’ve ever had!
I ended up getting a big bag of these with stem ginger inside. Sweet, bitter with a hint of spice.
Rebel Rebel have the most beautiful arrangement of flowers for your picking. Definitely follow them on Instagram for some stunning floral inspirations.
This food stall however (Deeny’s Haggis Toasties) had one of the biggest queues so I decided to try out what all the fuss was about.
I have never tasted Haggis but went for the Ham-Ish – Haggis, Smoked Bacon, Caremelised Onion and Cheddar Cheese! Deliciously peppery with a slight tang from the onions, it was definitely worth the queue!
My day ended with some cooling cold mojito ice-lollies to beat the intense heat. Only open on Saturdays, the closest stations to Broadway Market are Hackney Central and London Fields Overground stations.
