Engagement Celebrations

I just spent a lovely week back home in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which consisted of a whole weekend of engagement celebrations with family and friends.

???????????????????????????????

I arrived in KL after sixteen hours of travelling, exhausted and jet lagged but full of excitement over the festivities taking place for the next two days! Just a couple hours of sleep and I headed straight into the event preparations; organising gifts, a much needed mani-padi, hair and make-up and finally out the door!

The first evening was the Indian engagement ceremony with some religious customs and rituals.

Then came the custom of gift giving between the two families. Gifts vary from culture to culture but there is definitely new clothing and gold involved.

And finally, the ‘official’ engagement.

The rest of the evening was filled with laughter, dancing, music and amazing food.

The second evening was an engagement dinner for all of our family friends residing in KL.

And as you can see, more than meeting and greeting, the evening consisisted of just dancing!

Lots and lots and lots of dancing! Now you know why there is always music and dancing in Bollywood films!

I had such an amazing week with my family and friends that just these two days of events left me completely exhausted! And to think that these were just celebrations for our engagement and there is still the wedding to go! I am now in full wedding planning mode and although there is still so much left to do, I can’t wait to see it all come together in the end.

I’m also extremely excited to share that after much debate and discussion, the wedding will be taking place in Jaipur, India! Definitely a dream come true.
